The Golden Heart of the Capital: Panaji’s Most Iconic Landmark! 🪔👑✨ Right in the center of Goa’s bustling capital lies a sanctuary of gold and grace. Shree Mahalaxmi Temple isn’t just a place of worship; it’s the spiritual anchor of Panaji and a stunning example of Goan craftsmanship. 📍 Where is it? Location: Dada Vaidya Road, Panaji (near the famous Immaculate Conception Church). Vibe: Elegant, vibrant, and deeply traditional. It stands as a beautiful contrast to the Portuguese-style buildings surrounding it. 🚗 How to Reach? On Foot: If you are exploring the Fontainhas Latin Quarter or the Panaji market, it’s a short, scenic walk away. By Car/Scooter: Parking in Panaji is notoriously difficult, but there is a dedicated (though small) space near the temple. Better yet, park at the Multi-level parking and take a short ride! 📜 Why It’s Special The Legend: This was the first Hindu temple allowed to be built in Goa during the Portuguese era (granted in 1818). The Deity: The idol of Goddess Mahalaxmi is made of black stone and is incredibly beautiful. She is seen as the "Protector of the City." The Architecture: Look up! The temple features a magnificent dome and a silver arched entrance. The 24 wooden panels inside depicting scenes from the Bhagavad Gita are a must-see for art lovers. 🏰 Nearby Landmarks Immaculate Conception Church: The famous white zig-zag stairs are just 5 minutes away. Fontainhas: The colorful Latin Quarter is perfect for a post-temple walk and photo session. Panaji Waterfront: Head here for a sunset stroll along the Mandovi River after your visit. ⚠️ Current Situation (2026 Update) Dress Code: Strictly enforced. No shorts, miniskirts, or sleeveless tops. The temple provides wraps/sarongs at the entrance if you aren't dressed appropriately. Festivals: If you’re here during Navratri or Diwali, the temple is draped in thousands of lights and flowers—it’s absolutely magical! Photography: Allowed in the outer courtyard (the temple building is very photogenic!), but strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum. 📸 My Personal Tips Beat the Rush: Visit between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM for a peaceful experience. The Night View: Even if you don't go inside, drive past it at night. The way the temple is illuminated against the Panaji city lights is a 10/10 view. Local Treats: Grab a fresh Goan pao or some local sweets from the small shops just outside the temple gate. Final Verdict: 5/5 Stars! 🌟 You haven't truly seen Panaji until you've stood before the doors of Mahalaxmi. It’s the perfect blend of history, culture, and divine energy. 💛🏙️

This temple is one of the famous temple in panjim. Which comes in old goa. Peaceful, calm & soul satisfying environment with beautiful architecture. Beside of this temple also there is Radha Krishna temple. Well maintained & clean campus of the temple. Outside of the temple there is lots of shop for prashad & flowers. Western attire is prohibited here, so you will have to wear ethnic attire.

Aha, this place is situated in the heart of the city. It is very calm and not crowded You can enjoy it. From outside the temple looks small but once you enter inside it's really big and amazing. It's the oldest temple in goa. Security guards were letting us know more about the temples and nearby places. They have pictures very nicely. I won't get a chance to click much but I have few, The only problem I've seen is the parking where you have to park your vehicle over the road may be far from the temple.
