We visited Confeitaria 31 De Janeiro during our Goa trip after hearing a lot about it, and overall it was a good experience. The bakery offers a great variety of vegetarian, egg, and non-vegetarian items, which is nice to see. As vegetarians, we had plenty of options to choose from.
We tried the Almond Chocolate Pastry, Salted Caramel Tart, Veg Puff, Mushroom Puff, and a Cold Coffee. The pastries, tart, and puffs were all fresh, delicious, and definitely worth trying. The only disappointment was the cold coffee—it was much sweeter than expected and lacked a strong coffee flavor.
The café itself has a lovely vibe, but it's quite small and gets very crowded. Seating is limited, and parking nearby can also be a challenge during busy hours.
One thing that stood out was the billing experience. We noticed another group was allowed to pay after finishing their meal, whereas we were asked to pay immediately after placing our order. There may have been a reason for the difference, but it did make the experience feel a little inconsistent.
Overall, it's a great place to visit if you're in Goa, especially for their baked items. I'd happily recommend the pastries and puffs.

Superb food. Self service with very few tables but saw people willing to stand and eat outside the cafe. Just speaks volumes about the food and its quality.
The decor gave vintage vibes.
The mushroom tartlets were something unbelievable and must have there.
The sandwiches were unexpectedly fantastic.
When visiting goa..... a must visit.
I had huge hopes for this place, but alas I guess this place was not for me.
Disclaimer: when I went there, the place was under renovations so I get that their service was highly hindered due to that.
The food wasn’t that special tbh. Half of the menu wasn’t available due to the renovations. I am very easy to please I went here cause of all the reels but I guess other than this being a nearly 100 year old place, there isn’t anyrhing that stuck out to me.
So if you’re going here to have GOOD food, I’d say skip. There are better, much peaceful and less crowded places in this locality.
The place is highly Instagram-able, so if you’re going for cute photos, for sure go. But please keep in mind that this place is really small and sees a huge crowd. I found it difficult to even stand there and place an order, so idk how you’ll take cute photos, but the place is nice nonetheless.
Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro is such a gem in Fontainhas. Old-school Portuguese bakery with loads of charm. Great for pastries, cakes, and coffee. Small place, big on flavor and nostalgia. Perfect pit-stop while walking through the Latin Quarter.
Super authentic vibe — tiled walls, wooden shelves, old-world charm. Tried their pasteis de nata, bibinca, and bolo de Laranja. Everything was fresh and not overly sweet. Coffee was strong and good. Place is tiny with maybe 2-3 tables, so mostly takeaway. A must-visit if you love traditional Goan-Portuguese bakes. Prices are reasonable too.
A perfect cafe in the vicinity of Fontainhas, that's as crowded as the surrounding streets! Though we have to a wait a bit, but the the wait is worth it as what they serve is of top quality. The must place to try the famous Portuguese dessert Serradura and their Hot Chocolate is lit, real thick melted chocolate served warm in a cup. They have many other Goan and Portugese desserts, made in house and their quality reflecting in each bite and sip! This is located in a narrow street where you can only walk to but the it welcomes us with a well set cafe store. The seating here is very tight and limited.
